Week 5 internship
Monday
On Monday of my fifth week during the internship, I had the opportunity to work on a PDF design for a new client. This project involved creating a comprehensive packet for client recommendations, which provided a refreshing change from the email designs I had been focusing on in the previous week. I particularly enjoyed this task because I genuinely admired the design style of the client's branding. Designing for this brand felt effortless and enjoyable due to the alignment between my personal aesthetic preferences and their established brand identity. Moreover, while working on this project, I gained valuable insights into the design business. One important lesson I learned was regarding the release of working files to clients. In this case, Melissa, my supervisor, emphasized the need to be cautious about sharing working files and explained how it is addressed in their contracts. As a result, we developed a PDF with fill-in-the-blank sections, allowing the client to input their information while still preserving the integrity of the original design. Overall, Monday's work allowed me to explore a different design format, appreciate a client's distinct brand style, and deepen my understanding of the business aspects of design.
Wednesday
During Wednesday of my fifth week as an intern, I focused on creating email designs for both TSS and JW. The email designs included a May newsletter, lifecycle merch emails, and a newsletter email specifically for JW. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work on a feed mockup for TSS's Instagram account. The owner of TSS expressed dissatisfaction with the approach taken by their marketing team and sought a designer's perspective. This task proved to be incredibly enjoyable as we utilized their existing content and made small yet impactful changes that resulted in a significant transformation. It was truly remarkable to witness how a few minor design tweaks on their photos and graphics could greatly enhance the overall look and cohesiveness of their Instagram feed. This experience reinforced the notion that even subtle design adjustments can make a substantial difference in the visual appeal and branding consistency of a digital platform. Overall, Wednesday's work allowed me to showcase my design skills across various email campaigns and demonstrated the power of design in elevating the aesthetics of a social media feed.
