Week 6 Internship
Monday
Monday on week 6 of my internship marked the start of a new project: creating pride graphics for the beginning of Pride Month. As an active member of a church and a student at a university affiliated with that church, I found myself facing a personal dilemma. The church does not support gay marriage, and while I don't fully agree with all of their policies, it gave me pause. I questioned whether I would be comfortable making more work like this in the future. After much contemplation, I ultimately decided that I would continue creating such work because, at its core, it promotes happiness and inclusivity. I believe that is what Jesus would want. Personally, I know gay Latter-Day Saints who have battled with depression and even contemplated suicide over the years. I truly believe that the pride graphics I was making would contribute to making individuals like the ones I know feel included, heard, seen, and loved. To me, that is what truly matters.
wednesday
On Wednesday of my sixth week during the internship, our team embarked on an exciting project: designing print materials to promote a workout app that would be available on hotel room TVs in select hotels worldwide. This task proved to be a blend of enjoyment and challenge. The client's requirements were initially quite vague, which led us to create multiple design options and undergo several rounds of edits to ensure we met their expectations. Working within the constraints of limited-sized cards and assets presented a unique challenge, as we needed to effectively convey all the necessary information. However, through collaboration and creativity, we managed to find a solution that successfully showcased the app's features and encouraged hotel guests to engage in workouts from the comfort of their rooms. This project not only allowed us to exercise our design skills but also sharpened our ability to navigate ambiguity and create impactful print materials.
